Truly can’t tell you how grateful I am when I get to work with wonderful people, M.
She got me to design this floral birthday cake for her long-standing much loved colleague P, originally from Johannesburg, South Africa.
M loves my climbing garden rose cake but requested the focal flower to be Protea, which is a national flower of South Africa.
Having never made one of these before and with no protea cutter, I have to refer to actual flower from photographs. The centre of this flower are handmade from hundreds of thin strips gumpaste attached piece by piece. It’s a lengthy process but well worth the effort.
For the foilage, I have chosen eucalyptus, hearts entangled foliage, hypericum berries , protea buds, roses and briar roses to compliment the exotic flower. All flowers and leaves are handcrafted out of sugar.
Cake flavour : Almond sugee and marzipan.
